Are you ready to take your career to the next degree?

Jersey International Business School will be holding a Degree Open Evening for their BSc (Hons) International Financial Services degree on 15 September.

The degree allows students to complete a full degree in 2 years, but also allows students to work part-time two days a week for the duration of the degree with leading financial services organisations through the Undergraduate Employment Programme (UGEP).

Students in Year 13 and their parents, and recent school leavers who are still considering their options, are invited to attend the Degree Open Evening. The event, which runs from 5.30pm on Tuesday 15 September at the Business School, will offer information about joining the BSc (Hons) International Financial Services degree and the opportunities to apply for part-time, paid and structured undergraduate employment with leading financial services institutions.

A short presentation will commence at 6pm where students can learn all about the benefits of studying the on-island degree and the different approaches taken by each Undergraduate Employment Programme partner in giving paid undergraduate work experience throughout the two years of degree study. There will be plenty of time for general questions and answers and also for individual consultation with lecturers and staff before and after the presentation.

Georgina Sampson, who will be studying the degree from October and has been offered a UGEP placement at RBS International, said: "I am delighted to have been accepted onto the Jersey International Business School degree and to be partnered with RBS International. As RBSI is such a well-recognised firm I look forward to working with them and gaining a whole range of experiences.

"They also offer a rotational scheme so that I will be able to visit different aspects of the business which will then increase my knowledge and help me towards my exams. By gaining this experience whilst achieving a degree in international financial services it will increase my chances of employment and further my skills within the finance industry."

Twelve more organisations have joined the UGEP for next year, including Alex Picot Trust Company, Ashburton, Barclays and Sanne. Chris Cotillard, director at Alex Picot Trust, said: “Having joined the Undergraduate Employment Programme this year we found that the calibre of candidates applying for work experience was very high. Being a medium-sized firm, we are able to offer the opportunity to experience several different areas of work which will develop the student’s skills in a supported environment.

"They will receive training in trust administration and bookkeeping as well as having the opportunity to learn more about investments and marketing.  We believe that the diversity of the role will assist in choosing a future career path.”

The Open Evening will be of interest to students entering Year 13 who are choosing their university options. The degree is also an option for those wanting to change career and those facing uncertainty in their current roles.
