BBC’s Business Editor confirmed for Enterprise Week

Wednesday 22 March 2017

Jersey Business has announced Simon Jack, the BBC’s Business Editor, as the keynote speaker for Enterprise Week in May.

An event titled ‘The Future of Enterprise in Jersey’ will open the week on the 16 May, and is intended to provide an opportunity for Jersey’s business leaders and owners to discuss how to navigate the turmoil in global politics, the subsequent impact on the economic environment and the repercussions for Jersey.

Jersey Business’s Chief Executive Graeme Smith said: “The business environment in 2017 is perhaps the most uncertain and challenging that we have faced since Enterprise Week started four years ago. We are therefore very pleased to be able to arrange such a high quality programme of events for the business community in Jersey.”

“All industries are affected by the global winds of change and Enterprise Week will present an opportunity for all businesses to address these in their own context. The Keynote Event ‘The Future of Enterprise in Jersey’ is a not-to-be-missed forum for every business leader on the Island.”

After spending time as a banker internationally, Mr Jack has reported on business and economics for the Today programme, BBC News Channel and BBC’s Breakfast News and now leads the broadcaster’s coverage of events in the business world from money markets to the tech sector.

Chief Minister Senator Ian Gorst said: “Once again Jersey Business has developed an exceptional programme of events during Enterprise Week. Whilst we are in a strong position, we are not immune from the implications of Brexit and other global events and Enterprise Week’s Keynote Event is a unique opportunity for the business community across the island to come together to consider how to respond to external factors that are shaping our future. I am delighted to be addressing this very important seminar and discussing the future of enterprise in Jersey.”

In addition to the keynote event, Enterprise Week 2017 will see a series of business events in Jersey focusing on the outlook for the Island in an international context, and seeking to answer the question of whether current local and global events are opportunities or threats for business in the Island.

Enterprise Week starts on Tuesday 16 May and runs until Friday 19 May. The full programme can be found  here.
