Gold for Liberation Group at SIBA Awards

Wednesday 04 May 2016

Liberation Brewery has been awarded a Gold Medal for its Liberation IPA at the SIBA South West Independent Beer Awards, judged recently at the Tuckers Maltings beer festival.

The award is in the Small Pack Premium Bitters & Pale Ales (4.5 – 4.9% abv) category, in what was described as one of the most competitive fields ever entered in the competition.

SIBA (The Society of Independent Brewers) was established in 1980 to represent the interests of the growing number of independent breweries in Britain at that time. It currently represents more than 825 craft breweries and the South West Region incorporates Bristol, the Channel Islands, Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, Somerset and Wiltshire.

SIBA chairman Guy Sheppard said: “The standard of entries this year has been incredibly high and the judges had a very difficult job. These Awards represent the very best in independent craft beer in the South West.”

Paul Hurley, Head Brewer at Liberation Brewery based at Longueville in Jersey said: “This is another terrific achievement for the small brewery team at Longueville, and for Pat Dean who has produced an exceptional IPA. Once again we have shown we can punch above our weight against some of the biggest names in the industry.”

It’s another gold medal for Liberation IPA. Last year the craft ale took top honours in the International Small Pack category at the International Brewing Awards, held in Burton on Trent.
