Ogier advises mineral firm on £215 million takeover

Thursday 08 December 2016

Ogier has advised a leading mineral firm on its £215 million takeover by Iluka Resources Limited, creating a new major player in the mineral sands resource field.

Sierra Rutile has been operating in Sierra Leone for around 50 years. The firm operates several mines in the country and its core product is natural rutile, a titanium feedstock used to manufacture white pigment for paint, paper and plastics.

Ogier has a long-running relationship with Sierra Rutile, and advised on the BVI law aspects of the arrangement, working with London counsel Herbert Smith Freehills.

Ogier's Global Head of Corporate and Commercial law Simon Dinning and senior associate, Wendy Walker, advised Sierra Rutile.

Mr Dinning said: “We have strong and long-standing relationships with both Sierra Rutile and Herbert Smith Freehills, and have been pleased to work with them on this major piece of work which combines the significant footprints of Sierra and Iluka."
