Health Information Guernsey (HIG) has received £20,000 from the Lloyds Bank Foundation for the Channel Islands to cover one year’s rent at their new charity shop.

HIG are opening their new charity shop at The Bridge on the 16th of May and will be attended by their new Patron Lady, Lady Corder. This move was required as the shop was previously located at The Bridge and was fortunate to operate rent free thanks to the Channel Islands Co-operative Society.

The Foundation has supported HIG by covering their first year of rent for the new charity shop which is run by a team of volunteers and provides a valuable source of income for HIG initiatives. HIG enables islanders to have access to information on disability and health matters that would otherwise be difficult for them to obtain.

Some of these initiatives include confidential and impartial health information free of charge. The charity gives out general information on finance and benefits including completing severe disability and carers allowance claim forms and also offers support for carers, lifeline information, and disability travel cards. The charity also provides Cancer information packs and support information for family members.

Louise Misselke, Vice Chair, Health Information Guernsey, commented on the grant giving:

“This is an exciting new phase for our fundraising – we are so grateful for the generous support from the Lloyds Bank Foundation which enables us to host our superb shop. HIG is growing from strength to strength and our new shop is vital to support the work we do supporting islanders.”

Jo Le Poidevin, Executive Director, Lloyds Bank Foundation for the Channel Islands commented:

“We’re happy to see the successful re-opening of the HIG charity shop on The Bridge, and pleased to be able to support them in their endeavours. Undertaking a new expense, like rent for a shop, can be challenging.  The charity shop provides a vital income which underpins their health information services, so it is important to have continuity in this business operation and this grant support will certainly help to achieve that.”
