Collas Crill to explore Data Protection and the Board

With the forthcoming changes to the Data Protection regime coming into effect next year, lawyers from Collas Crill will be discussing the implications at the NED Forum next month, sponsored by Investec.

Taking place on Monday 13 March at Les Cotils, group partner Wayne Atkinson and associate Alexandra Gill will be focusing on the impact that the changes will have to local businesses and how they need to be addressed at board level.

As one of the leaders of Collas Crill’s risk and regulatory team, Wayne regularly advises a range of financial services businesses on risk and regulatory matters.

Alexandra trained and qualified as a commercial lawyer with Bird & Bird LLP in London where she worked closely in their commercial and data protection practices, advising clients on a wide range of matters.

Alexandra said: "Data Protection is not (and, in fact, never has been) simply the remit of IT and security specialists. It affects every single organisation processing an individual's personal data and at all levels within the business.

"The impending changes to Guernsey's current Data Protection regime will be significant and impact heavily on almost all local businesses, be they financial institutions, childcare providers or estate agents. If your organisation has not already embarked on its journey towards compliance, it must start now."

Peter Mills, chair of the NED Forum, said: "We are very much looking forward to welcoming Wayne and Alexandra to speak on this topic. With the regime coming into force next year, it's important that all businesses educate themselves properly on the implications so that they can tackle the changes head on, particularly at board level."

The event will begin at 8am for breakfast and networking with the workshop starting at 8.30am. If you would like more information, follow this link: http://www.thenedforum.com/events/data-protection-around-the-board-table/
