Guernsey-based FCG, the parent and development company for 1st CENTRAL motor insurance company, has helped the UK insurer win a nomination at the British Insurance Awards (BIA).

The BIA is the foremost awards for the sector and FCG’s involvement will highlight Guernsey’s leading position in FinTech at a ceremony in July where 1st CENTRAL will vie for Insurance Broker of the Year.

One of 1st CENTRAL’s key differentiators in a busy insurance market is its bespoke, full retail insurance platform built by FCG and called FOCUS; it allows the group extreme agility with the ability to collate, use and analyse data across quotes, bookings, claims and other ongoing support.

The flexibility of the FOCUS platform plays a significant part in 1ST CENTRAL being a consistent top 10 seller on UK price comparison websites.

FCG group chairman, Mike Leonard, said the BIAs were the insurance industry Oscars and being part of a team to be nominated was highly prestigious.

“We have been quietly pushing the boundaries of FinTech in our sector for a long time and to be playing a part in the industry recognising 1st CENTRAL’s innovative way of underwriting motor insurance is excellent,” he said.

“FOCUS allows FCG to disrupt the traditional UK motor insurance market; in Guernsey we continually evolve the platform to anticipate what 1st CENTRAL’s customers need now and in the future.

“We are enormously proud too of our Guernsey-grown development team which has devised and built FOCUS; we’ve grown from four to more than 30 in only four years and we know that the way we assist 1st CENTRAL is a key part in its success.

“FCG has created a continuous environment of learning and development offering an opportunity to work in the advance .NET sphere which is not available anywhere else in Guernsey. This is a real success for Guernsey and we expect to be continuing to build on our innovations in our sector and further afield.”
