Brand new multi-million ferry on Jersey route

Wednesday 20 August 2014

A new state-of-the-art fast ferry will be running the UK to Jersey route from next Spring after Condor invested £50 million in a new vessel.

The ferry company announced the purchase this morning, after signing a new ten-year deal to stay on the route last week.

The vessel, an Austal 102, will be based in Poole.

Condor chief executive officer James Fulford said: “I am delighted to announce that we are now proud owners of the Austal 102.

“This represents £50m of investment in our islands and it will enable us to improve reliability, increase capacity, and give our guests a much greater level of comfort.

“We plan to introduce the 102 in spring 2015 and, in the months ahead, we will be sharing more details about this superb new ship and announcing ways in which Islanders can be involved in our preparations.”

The company announced in the last few days that their Commodore Clipper – which has been out of action for repairs after being damaged on the approach to Guernsey last month – will be back in action by the end of the week.

Condor had to draft in two charter ships while the repairs to the vessel were being carried out.
