Check out the menu here - soup's up in the Royal Square

Tuesday 06 December 2016

You can pick your winter warmer here from the list of 40 soups going on sale in the Royal Square from 10:30 today to help the Island's homeless people.

Organisers are expecting to serve up around 4,000 mugs at the annual soup kitchen in aid of the Shelter Trust who are cooking up their own pot full of ham hock & yellow split peas.

The soup kitchen has been an annual event for almost 20 years and one of the main fundraisers for the charity, last year raising £11,500 on the day.

Once again the hot soup has been made by some of the Island’s Michelin-starred chefs, Government House, Jersey Hospice and budding chefs at Jersey College for Girls and many more and it will be served up with some crusty bread.

The charity says all the money raised will be going "where it is intended and to where it is so needed – to make life a little more comfortable for Jersey’s homeless".

And if you're one of the first 250 in line for your soup you can pick up a free eco friendly 'KeepCup', a gift from the Soup Kitchen's new sponsor LGT Vestra who have also teamed up with Michelin starred chef Shaun Rankin of Ormer to create a Pumpkin and Butternut Squash soup with Smoked Bacon and Pumpkin Seed Granola.
