Money matters go mobile

Monday 24 November 2014

Money experts are on the road out west today giving out free advice about how you can avoid getting in debt in the run up Christmas.

The team from Trading Standards have joined forces with other local agencies to help with money matters and other debt and consumer issues and to help you spot a scam.

You can even offload some of your scam mail with the Consumer Road Show team who will be stopping at St Bernadette’s opposite Communicare at Les Quennevais today from 10.30 am until 4 pm.

The Director of Consumer Affairs and Trading Standards Trevor Le Roux said: “We know that people have particular concerns about scam mail and the targeting of elderly and vulnerable people by criminals. Our aim is to take that mail, get rid of it and give people sound advice about spotting scams and protecting friends and family who might be at particular risk.

“The experts who will be at the roadshow can also give information and advice on a wide range of issues that might be concerning people, especially in the run up to Christmas, such as budgeting to avoid debt.”

The road show will be at Trinity Parish Hall on Wednesday from 10.30 am until 4 pm and at the Old Magistrate’s Court at the Town Hall on Saturday at the same time.

As well as Trading Standards, staff from the Jersey Consumer Council, Community Savings, Citizens Advice Bureau, the Jersey Financial Services Commission, Joint Financial Crimes Unit, States of Jersey Police and the Energy Efficiency Service will all be offering advice.
