Special fans at the football

Almost 200 extra fans have been out to watch the women's football at the NatWest Island Games.

The children from St John's School turned out in force to St John's Football club armed with hand-held fans to help keep them cool as they watched Åland take on the Isle of Wight on Wednesday afternoon.

The fans were a gift from JT - the Games' tech sponsor who are handing out hundreds more to athletes and spectators in the Games Village in Howard Davis Park.

JT’s Head of Marketing Tamara O'Brien said: “We’re all being advised to stay sun-safe during the heat-wave this week and it is our pleasure to provide St John’s School with fans to help them cool off while spectating at the Natwest Island Games. We are proud to be the technology sponsor of the Natwest Island Games and delighted to extend our support to help St John’s School through this donation.”

Schoolchildren across the Island have been getting involved in the Games all week, watching the sports, visiting the Games Village and learning about all the different Islands competing.

St John's School Headteacher Trudie De La Haye said: "The pupils from St John's have been enjoying the exciting NatWest Island Games this week and have watched dedicated athletes engage in a variety of sports.

"Classes have visited athletics at FB Field, football at the Rec at St John's and the Men's Football Final at Springfield. Nursery and Reception held their own Island Games in school and Sports Day had an Island Games theme.

"The school has been engaged, keen and happy to support such an exciting Island event."
