Vistra Jersey Kids’ Triathlon set to return next month

Sunday 21 May 2017

The Jersey Kids’ Triathlon is returning for a fifth year with a new sponsor, and hopes to break fundraising records.

The event, which takes place at Les Quennevais Sports Centre on 10 June, welcomes children of all ability and background to take part in a fun and rewarding day of sport.

Organisers have said they are “delighted” to confirm and welcome Vistra as the new headline sponsor of the event.

The event, which is in its fifth year, will now be known as the Vistra Jersey Kids' Triathlon and will continue to support and fundraise for the charity Bloodwise.

Jane Pearce, Managing Director of Vistra Jersey, said: “We are delighted to be the headline sponsor of the Jersey Kids’ Triathlon. It is not only a fantastic event to get children fit in a non-competitive environment but is also raising awareness for a very worthy charity. We look forward to helping to build the success of the event for the island’s children, whilst increasing fundraising for Bloodwise so they can continue their invaluable work in reducing blood cancer.”.

In 2016 the event welcomed some four hundred energetic children, and with triathlon sport becoming more popular every day, organisers are hoping to see around five hundred children take on the fun challenge in 2017 and raise even more money.

Last year, the event raised over £10,000 for Bloodwise and organisers are hoping they can hit a £15,000 goal this year so they are again encouraging all participating children to support Bloodwise and help raise valuable funds for the local charity.

All participating children automatically receive a personal online fundraising page on completion of registration, which organisers say makes it easier for them to seek sponsorship.

Chris Rowland, Chairman of the Jersey Branch of Bloodwise said: “The children’s triathlon is a fantastic opportunity to both fundraise and raise awareness for blood cancer research amongst the Jersey community. Since the charity was launched in 1960, blood cancer research has come on leaps and bounds and now we see that 9 in 10 children survive a blood cancer diagnosis. This is thanks to the research which is funded by fundraisers such as those in the Jersey Branch.”
