A cyber attack on a UK-based company that facilitates DBS checks resulted in a data breach that reportedly included the personal information of some individuals in the Channel Islands.

Guernsey’s independent Data Protection Authority said it was engaging with Access Personal Checking Services Ltd after being contacted by “a number of Bailiwick residents”.

The breach reportedly included personal contact and identity information, such as passport, driving license and national insurance details.

But the ODPA also said that, based on information provided by APCS, it understood that “the impact on Guernsey residents may be limited”.

The ODPA has reminded islanders of some of the ways they can protect their personal information, such as by changing passwords and being on guard against “red flags” such as a sudden increase in credit inquiries or alerts.
