The Guernsey Office of the Data Protection Authority has announced that registration fees will be increasing by 3.7%, in line with inflation, (RPIX), for next year.

From 1 January 2026, the annual registration fee will be £62.22 for organisations with fewer than 50 employees, while for any organisation above that threshold it’ll now cost £2,488.80.

The ODPA clarified that registered charities and not-for-profit organisations will continue to pay nothing for registration.

The Authority says the the fee performs “a vital role in enabling the ODPA to operate independently of the States of Guernsey”.

They add that this level of independence is “essential for maintaining effective regulatory oversight, safeguarding islanders’ data rights, and supporting the Bailiwick’s digital ambitions”.

Last year the ODPA investigated more than 50 public complaints against local data controllers, and processed more than 150 data breach reports, while participating in 33 community events.

The Authority also expanded its schools’ outreach programme to reach Years 4, 8, and 10 across the Bailiwick

They published several new guidance notes to help organisations stay compliant, and launched Bailiwick Data Protection Advisories to warn the public of active threats to their personal data.

Bailiwick Data Protection Commissioner Brent Homan stated: “From cyber-attacks to online safety, the data-protection landscape poses greater challenges than ever to individuals’ data rights.”

Mr Homan continued: “Whether it is promoting elevated data practices, or protecting our children online, the Bailiwick relies on an effective, properly resourced regulator.”
