A local telecoms company has been certified as a ‘Great Place to Work®’ by a UK-based global accreditation body.

Sure said it is one of a small number of employers in the Channel Islands and Isle of Man to get the recognition.

The certification is awarded for good performance in two areas – an anonymous employee survey and a “culture audit”, which reviews the firm’s internal policies and environment.

To get the award, Sure needed to meet a “benchmark for a high-trust workplace”, it said.

The company highlighted its focus on technical upskilling, as a core part of its workplace culture.

Over the last year, 5,000 hours of training were completed by staff on various software platforms.

The firm also highlighted its ‘111 Learning Pledge’, which gives employees dedicated time each week for professional development.

Sure staff have gained industry-recognised qualifications in cybersecurity, cloud adoption and emerging technologies, among other things.

Lucienne De La Mare, HR Director, said when staff feel empowered, it “translates directly into better experiences” for customers.

The certification was a “significant milestone” for the company, she said.

She added: “When colleagues feel supported, empowered and able to grow, they deliver their best – that translates directly into better experiences and greater value for our customers across the islands.”

Alistair Beak, Group CEO,  said investing in both skills and “next-generation technology” is central to the company’s long-term strategy.

Mr Beak said: “This official recognition is a significant achievement for Sure. Earning this certification demonstrates just how deeply our people-first culture sits at the heart of our strategy.

“Our continued investment in skills, wellbeing and next-generation technology is building an organisation ready for the future – one that delivers industry-leading connectivity for the communities we serve.”
