Islanders will be able to hop on a direct flight to the North East from this weekend thanks to a new direct route to Newcastle which it’s hoped will boost the number of tourists coming the other way.

Operating from both Guernsey and Jersey, the flights begin this Saturday (3 May) and will run up to three times a week on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays throughout the summer, including the busy October half-term period.

The airline hopes the new link will make it easier for visitors from the Newcastle area to explore the islands, while also offering convenience for islanders heading north for holidays, family visits or business.

“Direct connectivity is vital for our communities,” said Blue Islands CEO Rob Veron.

“Our new Newcastle service offers convenient access to the North East from Guernsey and Jersey, and complements our existing options via Southampton.”

He added that the business was also looking “forward to welcoming more visitors to our beautiful islands and supporting inbound tourism”.

The flights are available until early November, with further connections available year-round via Blue Islands’ partnership with Loganair through Southampton.
