A UK water industry professional with 30 years’ experience in a range of senior technical, operational and leadership roles has been appointed to Jersey Water’s board of directors.

Dr Sarah McMacth has joined the utility as non-executive director. She currently serves as the chief executive of Market Operator Services Limited, the market operator for the non household water retail market in England – a role she has held since June 2019.

Before joining MOSL, she worked at Thames Water for 24 years.

Additionally, Dr McMacth is a board member of the Women’s Utilities Network and of water and environmental sustainability company Stonbury, as well as national president of the Institute of Water and the chair of the UK Water Efficiency Strategy Group.

She said she was “very pleased” to be joining Jersey Water.

“I look forward to contributing my experience and perspective from the UK water sector to support continued robust governance and strategic oversight at a time of increasing complexity and challenge for the industry,” she said.

Paul Masterton, chair of Jersey Water’s board of directors, said Dr McMacth “will add real value to our existing board’s effective oversight and the strategic direction being set for the company”.

Jersey Water is also once again supporting the Government of Jersey’s I WILL female board apprentice programme.

Roslyn-Bullen-Bell, director of midwifery and nursing at the Health Department, will be observing and learning from Jersey Water’s board for one year.

She said: “This experience will be invaluable for broadening my understanding and experience of governance and decision making outside of a health environment.

“Jersey Water plays a critical role in the
island’s infrastructure and I’m keen to gain insight into how the utility plans for resilience and long term performance for the island it serves.”

Mr Masterton added: “We are also delighted to once again be supporting the Government of Jersey’s I WILL female board apprentice programme, helping to build a pipeline of board ready professionals locally, which can only benefit organisations on the island.”
