Blue Islands are proposing a service would depart Jersey mid-morning and route to Luxembourg via Guernsey, with a flight time of 1hr40 from Guernsey.

At present, Channel Island passengers can only travel to Luxembourg via a UK airport, putting them at risk of late arrivals, missing their second flight and, potentially, further ticket fees if one leg of the journey gets cancelled or delayed.

Blue Islands is therefore assessing the viability of the twice weekly direct service to the European business hub with this in mind, and have now launched a survey to find out whether businesses are on board with the idea.

Tom Barrasin, Blue Islands Chief Commercial Officer commented: “Thanks to discussions and feedback from multiple corporate service users, Blue Islands has an initial understanding of the corporate community travel requirements to Luxembourg from the Islands. Now we are reaching out to the broader business community to get more granular feedback on beliefs and opinions around the route usage, schedule, seasonality, current travel experience and other service requirements to see if this could be a viable, sustainable route.

“At Blue Islands, we continually seek new route opportunities to better serve the Channel Islands. We would like to encourage corporates and business travellers to complete the survey, so that we might learn more about our customers and shape the best service solutions to meet their needs and ultimately determine if that service can be delivered in a commercially viable way.”

Aztec and PW, both of which have regular requirements for travel to Luxembourg, were among the first businesses to get in touch.

Rob Jones, Aztec Director added “Aztec welcomes Blue Islands’ initiative to ascertain the potential demand for direct flights to Luxembourg from the Channel Islands. Anecdotally we understand there is a requirement for this service, therefore we urge all potential users to complete the survey and provide Blue Islands with the information they need to appraise the new route fully.”

The survey will be open until 31 August and can be found on the Blue Islands website.
