The Fete d’Etai (Guernesiais for ‘summer festival’) will take place on Sunday 17 August between 10.00 and 17.00.

The Castle’s medieval history will be celebrated with children’s activities, live music and living history.

Members of the Jersey group The Duke’s Leopards will return to Castle Cornet.

They will be setting up a small medieval camp with a cooking area, games and more, with the chance to explore the recipes and ingredients from the medieval period.

The young (and young at heart) are invited to join in with Knight School at 12.15 and 14.15, where they can show off their talents of chivalry, bravery and strength.

Families are invited to take part in a special Robin-Hood style quest which involves exploring the site and stealing coins from the Castle’s greedy king.

The live action role play group Tol Galen will once again be providing entertainment in the form of sword fights and displays of weapons and armour. This will be accompanied by the arts and crafts activities, where visitors can learn about weaving with willow artist Rae Bearder, try the ancient art of the lucet and make a lavender bag to take home. For music lovers, there will be live performances throughout the day in different locations across the Castle.

For the first time, there will be a film screening of ‘How To Train Your Dragon’ (2010) on the Twilight Cinema big screen at 3pm. There is no extra charge for the film and no booking required.

Jo Dowding, Access & Learning Manager, said: “Variety is the theme for this year’s Fete, where visitors can see medieval weapons smashing up melons, followed directly by a brilliant modern film about dragons. As with previous years, anyone attending the day in medieval dress will be admitted free of charge.”

Fete d’Etai takes place on Sunday 17 August from 10:00-17:00.

Normal admission applies: £12.00 for adults, £3 for children and free of charge for under 7s. Discovery Pass holders and accompanying children enter free of charge.
