The GSPCA help 1000’s of cats every year in many ways from strays to those neglected.
When we have room we not only help island cats but we help animals from Association of Dogs and Cats Homes (ADCH) which is an organisation made up of over 160 charities across the UK and Ireland.
Last October GSPCA Manager Steve Byrne brought 5 cats back from the RSPCA in Wales.
Three of the 5 were a multiple cat household.
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “Thankfully we have seen a decrease of cats needing homes year on year for many years and when we can we help those on other islands needing our help and when we can those in charities who are members of the ADCH.”
“The pandemic did put a pause on this but last October we managed thanks to the help of Condor Ferries help 5 cats from the RSPCA in Wales.”
“3 of the cats were extremely nervous as they were from a multiple cat household and had had little to no care so were not used to people or being handled.”
“Spook, Casper and Pumpkin were so nervous when they first arrived at the GSPCA and are what many would call semi-feral or farm cats.”
“We really struggle to find these types of cats new homes as most enquiries are from those wanting kittens or friendly family cats.”
“Recently Sarah from Edible Guernsey visited as they have been thinking of adopting some cats that could live at their site.”
“After following the rehoming procedures earlier today myself and colleague Neil took Casper, Spook and Pumpkin to their new home and they quickly settled into their temporary pen where they will live for some weeks to settle before being let out into the wonderful rural new home.”
“I have seen many horrendous homes that have horded animals from working at the RSPCA and it is wonderful that they are now in a fabulous new home with people who will give them all the love and space they need.”
“If anyone would like a farm cat or offer any animal a new home check out our rehoming procedure or please do get in touch.”
Sarah Breton Vice Chair from Edible Guernsey said “It was wonderful to see Spook, Casper and Pumpkin settle so quickly.”
“I visited the GSPCA in December when Steve did a talk on CSR and fundraising as part of the Guernsey Community Foundation talks.”
“I asked at the time about cats that might want a farm type home and saw the three then and it is wonderful to see them arrive with Steve and Neil.”
“Edible Guernsey will provide them with a fantastic home and they can help us in lots of ways.”
“We will give them the space they need and they can enjoy their new life with those that will look after and care for them.”
Neil Hughes GSPCA Staff Member said “It was great too see the three cats settle so quickly.”
“We are so grateful to Edible Guernsey who also gave us a van full of pumpkins to feed the chickens and cockerels needing homes at the GSPCA.”
Ali Le Huray GSPCA staff member said “We will all miss looking after Spook, Casper and Pumpkin as although they were so nervous they were real characters.”
“You would often here them talk to one another.”
“We wish them all the best and look forward hearing the updates in their new home.”

“If would like to help with wish list items you can call us on 01481 25721 or email admin@gspca.org.gg or the easy way to see many items we are in need is by going to our Amazon Wish List https://www.amazon.co.uk/hz/wishlist/ls/25MJPPDAGXHL1?type=WishList .”
“We do promote buying items locally but shopping online can help raise funds at the same time as if you select the GSPCA through easy fund raising part of the amount through 1000’s of online retailers comes back to the GSPCA and it has raised over £2500.”
“To sign up to do this please visit http://www.easyfundraising.org.uk/causes/guernseyspca/?u=1CHID8 .”

“A gift of a tiny bowl costing less than a £1 to a £600 intensive care unit, every donation is hugely appreciated and really makes the team smile that there are those that care and want to support our work.”
