Over the last few months the GSPCA have been rejuvenating its Memorial Garden with a huge amount of support and help from St Andrews Floral Group and the Social Security Work to Benefit team as well as many others.

The GSPCA help over a 1000 owners through bereavement and the death of their pet and the Memorial Garden on site is an area where those that have lost their pet can sit and reflect.

A huge amount of work has been undertaken to repair a damaged wall in the garden and make it a wonderful area for visitors and recently GSPCA Manager Steve Byrne and Ann Wragg from St Andrews Floral Group were invited to Le Friquet Garden Centre as they kindly offered to donate a wonderful budget of £500s worth of stock to help with the Memorial Garden.

With their sale on and kind discount when we got to the sixth large trolley full of plants we found that we were only half way through the kind donation budget.

GSPCA Manager Steve Byrne headed back to the Shelter with a van packed full looking more like a rain forest or botanical garden while Ann Wragg carried on selecting items to help the Memorial Garden.

It took three trips of collections of donated items from Le Friquet Garden Centre which are now all at the Shelter with some already in the ground and hundreds more waiting to be planted.

Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “We help over a 1000 pet owners through the loss of their pet each year which is never easy and this is an area on site we have to help those bereaved that come to the GSPCA.”

“The donation from Le Friquet Garden Centre was literally astounding, we have so many plants to take the area to the next stage of landscaping but we have other projects in the area we are trying to achieve.

“If anyone would like to get involved or donate to the Memorial Garden at the GSPCA we would love to hear from them.

“A truly heart felt thanks to Le Friquest Garden Centre and their team for what has been such an amazing donation to help this communal area at the GSPCA for bereaved pet owners.”
