An informal reception was held recently (Wednesday 25 July 2018) to mark the official completion of the £720k project to enhance the Fisherman’s Pontoons in St Helier Harbour.

The project, which started earlier this year, has seen the replacement of pontoons across two key operational areas used by the Island’s fishing fleet; namely La Collette Fisherman’s Pontoons opposite La Collette Basin along with the London Berth Landing Pontoon on the eastern side of Victoria Pier. Other notable enhancements included an increase in pontoon widths and loading capabilities, improved pontoon services such as access to power and water as well as an increased berthing provision, which saw an additional 150m extension across both sites.

Operations Manager for Ports of Jersey, Abby Farahmand, who oversaw the project on behalf of the organisation said, “These major improvement works now provide a purposely designed and built facility, which will service the requirements of both our existing and future fishing fleet.  The facility has been operational for some time now and feedback from our fishing community has overall been very positive. This project was only feasible thanks to the financial business plan that the Jersey Fisherman’s Association provided to Ports of Jersey. I congratulate all the teams involved in successfully delivering these new facilities and thank our fishing community for their support and involvement throughout the works.”

Invited guests at the reception included Harbour and Marina representatives from Ports of Jersey, together with companies involved in delivering the project, including Inland Coastal and Marina Systems (ICMS), Marina Projects Ltd, Geomarine and Gordons Electrical. Members of The Jersey Fishermen’s Association and fishing community also attended.
