Jersey Hospice Care is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, which marks the care provided to the
first patient in 1982.
Over the past 40 years, Hospice has been dedicated to caring for people in our community with a life-limiting or life-threatening illness and also extending this support to the people close to them. From visiting the first patients in their homes in 1982 to opening the 12 bedded In Patient Unit that we know today at Mont Cochon in 2012, the vision and mission at Jersey Hospice Care remain the same – that everyone deserves to be supported to live fully, in the time that they have left. This has been demonstrated time and time again by the many lives the charity has touched in our community since 1982.
The team at Hospice will be sharing key moments and memories from the past four decades and inviting islanders to get involved throughout the year to celebrate. To find out more, keep an eye on Jersey Hospice Care’s social media channels or website (www.jerseyhospicecare.com) and look out for a ‘40th’ graphic which has been developed to mark the milestone.
Mike Palfreman, Chief Executive at Jersey Hospice Care, said: “I was delighted to join Jersey Hospice Care as Chief Executive last July. I was greeted warmly by people right across the island and was immediately impressed by the strength of feeling of so many for the work we do. As the charity celebrates its 40th year, it is impossible to mark such a milestone without recognising this support from the Jersey community all these years. Every donation, sign-up to an event, purchase from our shops – the list goes on – has made a tangible difference to the care provided for the family members, friends and colleagues that matter most to each of us. Jersey Hospice Care remains at the heart of the community and I’d like to invite everyone to be a part of our 40th anniversary celebrations.”
