Monday 29 September 2014

The Trustees of Jersey Hospice Care (JHC) have announced today that Derek Hoddinott has been appointed as the new Chief Executive (CEO) for Jersey Hospice Care.

Steve Harvey the current CEO will be leaving after eight years in post at the end of the year to return to the UK with his family.

Chairman of JHC, Dr Gari Purcell-Jones said: “We are delighted that Derek will be joining Jersey Hospice Care at what is a busy period for the team as we start to expand our services to provide care to help all islanders that require end of life care, through the services of our specialist palliative care team.

"I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Steve for his work that has enabled JHC to be able to expand its services, in particular his drive and vision in overseeing the redevelopment of the facilities and site so we are able to offer more support to those in need. We wish Steve and his family every success in their plans for the future.”

Mr Hoddinott joins Jersey Hospice Care from the States of Jersey Health and Social Services department where he has worked for the last two years as Deputy Director of Commissioning for Adult Community Services. Prior to this appointment Derek worked in the NHS, across acute, community and primary care services and was Executive Director for Bexley and Greenwich Health Authority where his work included strategic change management and leading teams in delivery of care services. Derek has previously worked in a number of organisations both in the UK and overseas. These have included the private sector, central/local government and the NHS.

Mr Hoddinott said: “ I am very much looking forward to joining Jersey Hospice Care and working along side the Council of Trustees, Specialist Palliative Care Team, Hospice staff and volunteers, so together we can continue to develop and support all Islanders requiring end of life care within the Community of Jersey."
