Children's charity appoints new Chair

Thursday 29 June 2023

A charity that awards grants to young Islanders being supported by Children’s Services has appointed a new Chair to its board.

The appointment of Stewart Rowney as chair of Brightly follows the retirement of Susie Pinel, a former Deputy and Treasury Minister.

Mr Rowney – a former trustee and chair of Jersey Hospice Care – is already a member of the Brightly board and said he was 'delighted' to be appointed chair.

He praised the dedicated board, team of staff and volunteers who continued "the outstanding work that they do to support children and young people who are under the care of the Children's Services in Jersey".

Brightly's grants support children and young Islanders from birth to 25 years old, who live in residential or foster care, or with an extended family, and those who have been in care. The grants are intended to help towards various costs, including items for education or employment, independent moving-on grants, essential clothing or medical bills, plus any other expenses needed to encourage and support independent living.

Brightly chief executive Steve Harvey said Mr Rowney was the "ideal person to lead our board as chair as we continue to expand our services and strive to achieve our goal of making a real difference for children and young people in Jersey".

Mr Rowney is originally from the Western Isles and is currently responsible for management consultancy company Rowney Sharman's operations in the Channel Islands and the UK.
