Local businesses are being urged to 'switch off more often' to help save money and the environment.
The advice comes from Eco Active Jersey, who will be at the Library today for a free 'lunch and learn' session to teach local businesses how to better understand their energy bills and save money, as part of the 'Switch Off Fortnight' initiative.
Switch Off Fortnight is taking place place across 1,750 schools across the UK this month to encourage students to focus on saving energy and explain why reducing energy wastage is important.
Eco Active is looking to extend the campaign so that island businesses can get involved in saving energy too. As well as today's lunchtime session, they will be offering a similar session for staff in large businesses, so that employees can find out how to understand their domestic energy bills and save money at home.
Jane Burns, Eco Active Programme Manager, said: “Saving energy reduces our impact on our planet, as well as on our purses, and Switch Off Fortnight is a great initiative to teach school students the basics of reducing energy wastage. On average, schools that run the Switch Off Fortnight campaign can see their energy bills drop by 10%. We hope that school students will take home what they’ve learnt and will save energy and potentially money at home too.
“We are extending this campaign so that island businesses can do their bit to save energy too. Better understanding of energy bills and reducing wasted energy will help our environment, while also helping our island businesses to save money.”
Businesses who would like to attend the free session can contact Eco Active for more information and to book a place. Businesses must be signed up to the Eco Active business programme to be eligible to attend.
