Boosting opportunities for women in business would give the Channel Islands' economy a huge lift, it has been claimed.

That's the view of PwC, who are today hosting an event at the Radisson Blu aimed at demonstrating how having a diverse leadership team in business links directly to higher economic performance.

Held on the eve of International Women's Day (8 March), ‘Women in Work: The Key to Economic Success in the Channel Islands' will include discussions on how more women participating in work, leading local businesses, and creating new businesses, as well as closing the gender pay gap, would benefit the local economy.

PwC say they firmly believes that the "untapped source of talent and key to the our Islands' future success are women".

They have brought together a diverse panel of both local and international speakers to explore how policymakers, educators and businesses can realise this untapped potential and, in doing so, bridge the skills gap and boost diversity, prosperity and growth in the Channel Islands.

Keynote speakers will include PwC UK's Diversity and Inclusion Consulting Leader Jon Terry, Equiom Group's Global CEO Sheila Dean, and PwC Northern Ireland 'TechSheCan' expert Narelle Allen.

Simon Perry, Senior Partner of PwC Channel Islands, commented: “It’s widely acknowledged there needs to be more women in work across all sectors, but these events will really underline why it’s crucial for organisations to see the benefits of this much-needed shift. Diversity in leadership roles is important to maintain fresh perspectives, a broader spectrum of experiences and expertise, and a wider skill-set which will filter through the company as a whole.

 “At PwC, I cannot underestimate how serious we are about encouraging even more women into leadership positions. Our clients and staff expect us to bring the most diverse outlook to business issues and I am holding myself accountable for delivering on exactly that.”
