Finance regulator appoints new Commissioner

Thursday 20 August 2020

The Jersey Financial Services Commission has appointed the former Chair of the Channel Islands Information Security Forum as a Commissioner for the next five years.

Fellow Member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants Matt Palmer was the unanimous choice of an interview panel made up of the Chairman of Commissioners, Mark Hoban, and Commissioners Ian Wright and Peter Pichler.

The Board of Commissioners considered the Panel’s recommendation and decided that Mr Palmer was a suitable candidate for a Commissioner and recommended he be appointed for a full five-year term.

A report to the States Assembly announcing the intention to appoint Mr Palmer as Commissioner explains that he has "experience across the trust and fund management, retail banking, insurance and fintech sectors", and has "undertaken a range of non-executive roles and held responsibility for governance and oversight of budgets in excess of £1billion."

Mr Palmer is also described as an "experienced Audit Committee Chair", who has specialised in risk management with a focus on operations, technology and cyber security risks.
