A former Mourant CEO who was the youngest lawyer to become a partner at the firm has been nominated to take over as chairman of the States of Jersey Development Company.
Advocate Nicola Palios – who now works in the UK, and is joint-owner of Tranmere Rovers Football Club – has been put forward for the role, which is worth £40,000 per year for 24 days’ work.
Treasury Minister Alan Maclean has proposed the nomination to the States, saying that Advocate Palios would bring considerable experience and insight to the role.
The report accompanying the proposition states: “The Minister is confident that Nicola Palios will provide a strong, considered leadership, technical experience, together with excellent communications skills and stakeholder engagement, that will help contribute to the success of SoJDC in the forthcoming years.”
If the States approve the nomination, she will replace Mark Boleat as chairman, after he stepped down.
Advocate Palios’ selection was overseen by the Jersey Appointments Commission, and was the top choice out of 21 candidates.
Her nomination would be for a three-year term starting from 2 February.
