Former Travelmaker colleagues start new holiday firm

Tuesday 23 February 2021

Two former Travelmaker colleagues have launched an independent travel agency.

Based at 22 La Colomberie, Travel by Design will be led by Duncan Ashley and Julie Law, who worked for Travelmaker until it closed its doors in January.

The Co-op cited losses caused by the covid-19 pandemic as it shut its Don Street and St. Peter Travelmaker stores, which employed eight people, and one in Guernsey with four staff.

The Co-op said it supported the opening of the new firm, which is linked with Midcounties Co-operative Travel as a consortia member but will trade under its own name.

Ms Law and Mr Ashley hope that Travel by Design will offer continuity for previous Travelmaker customers.

“Duncan and I are really looking forward to running our own business,” Ms Law commented. “Our belief is that it is important to maintain a presence on the High Street where customers can be welcomed through the doors and chat through their holiday aspirations face to face.

“We will remain a point of contact for Travelmaker customers who have been booking with us for many years. Through our membership with Co-operative Travel and along with the strong links we have built with travel providers and tour operators, we are relishing the next chapter.”
