A funeral director at De Gruchy Funeral Care has achieved the Diploma in Funeral Arranging and Administration.

Shane Hatherley completed the year-long course and was recently awarded his Diploma in Funeral Arranging and Administration at a ceremony at Birmingham City University.

The National Association of Funeral Directors’ (NAFD) course is designed for professionals working in the funeral service for six months or more as a funeral arranger and administrator or funeral director.

Mr Hatherley is now working towards the NAFD Diploma in Funeral Directing. When he achieves this qualification, he will be the only funeral director in Jersey to hold the highest qualification in the funeral directing profession.

De Gruchy Funeral Care manager Gary Tye, commented: "Shane’s hard work has enabled him to build his knowledge and skills which will help us to continue to deliver our trademark professional and caring service.  By continuing to invest in our professional development, we are able to effectively support local families. We are delighted that Shane is continuing his studies in funeral directing. His expertise will make a huge difference to families at a very difficult time."

Mr Hatherley said: "I'm really pleased to have attained the diploma and am looking forward to furthering my learning with the funeral directing diploma, as well as progressing my career in the Society's funeral care sector."
