Jersey wins 10th ‘IFC of the Year’ award

Jersey has been crowned ‘International Finance Centre of the Year’ for the tenth time in a row at the annual Citywealth IFC Awards 2022.

Established 11 years ago by Citywealth, the awards highlight the excellence of advisers and managers in the private wealth sector across the major IFCs.

Commenting on Jersey’s decade-long streak of success, Joe Moynihan, Chief Executive of Jersey Finance, said: “Jersey’s consistent success at these awards is a real testament to the world-class service that we provide and the excellence of our financial community here on the island. 

“Continuing to be recognised as a leading IFC even after the turbulent couple of years that we have all experienced underlines Jersey’s resilience and adaptability, as well as the extensive pool of talent, skill, and expertise that makes up and strengthens our jurisdiction.  By maintaining our focus on innovation and sustainability, we look forward to continuing to support growth and prosperity worldwide.”

JTC was also recognised with five accolades. The firm JTC was the Gold winner in the ‘Independent Trust Company of the Year’, ‘Trust Company of the Year – Jersey’ and ‘Trust Company of the Year - Bahamas, Bermuda and Cayman, as well as winning Silver in the ‘Trust Company of the Year– Switzerland’ and ‘Family Office Adviser of the Year’ categories.

“JTC has a strong track record in the Citywealth IFC Awards,” Iain Johns, Group Head of Private Client Services, said. “This recognition highlights the strength and depth of our multi-jurisdictional proposition and team who provide a gold standard of service to our clients.”

Meanwhile, Ogier scored a hat-trick with Ogier the award for ‘Team of the Year – Litigation’, ‘Law Firm of the Year – Guernsey’, and ‘Law Firm of the Year – Jersey’.

Global Senior Partner Rachael Reynolds QC was also named ‘Lawyer of the Year – Litigation’ for the second time.

"It's fantastic to receive this series of awards for Ogier's global Private Wealth and Dispute Resolution teams, and for our Guernsey and Jersey offices,” Global Managing Partner, Edward Mackereth, said.

"These awards are testament to the way our teams are consistently growing, adapting and innovating to put our clients at the heart of everything we do, and - as importantly – of the way our people have been continuing to support each other to produce outstanding client service in another challenging year.

“This is well-deserved recognition of that commitment on the part of each member of the Ogier team, and for the brilliance of our senior partner Rachael."

Ravenscroft won Silver in the Investment Management Company of the Year – Channel Islands/Isle of Man category whilst Haydn Taylor, Managing Director of Ravenscroft in Jersey, won Silver for Investment Manager of the Year - Channel Islands and Isle of Man.

“Independent recognition of the excellence and expertise of our team is always to be celebrated,” Group Managing Director, Mark Bousfield, said. “This is the first time Ravenscroft has been shortlisted by Citywealth and so we are delighted to have won two silver awards, which is a reflection of the company’s continued growth and commitment to clients.”

VG’s Private Client Director, Paul Roper, received Silver for Trustee of the Year (Channel Islands and Isle of Man).

Having joined VG in 2020, Mr Roper is member of the firm’s Senior Executive Group and a Main Board Director 

“Being recognised at these awards reflects the regard in which Paul is held by his clients and testament to his outstanding ability to build trusted relationships and manage complex trust structures,” Ian Murphy, Director of Compliance and Risk at VG, said.

“Over and above this, Paul regularly undertakes business development, research and regularly writes about the matters clients should be considering to protect, grow and pass on their wealth; these activities are always carried out with a view to strengthening the quality of his service to clients. Paul’s clients appreciate knowing that the assets that they have worked hard to accumulate, are within his stewardship.” 

Winner of Private Bank of the Year in the Channel Islands and Isle of Man was Investec. The firm's CEO, Brendan Stewart, won a Silver Award in the Private Banker of the Year category.

"It is undoubtedly an honour to receive both accolades, which is testimony of course to the hard work and dedication of our teams across Guernsey, Jersey and the Isle of Man where we have continued to grow our business across all sectors and maintain our incredible high levels of service."

Rathbones won the award for Investment Management Company of the Year in the Channel Islands and Isle of Man for the fifth time.

The firm's Managing Director, Jonathan Giles, said the firm was "thrilled" to have received the , adding: "This is undoubtedly a collective effort built around the consistent delivery of the highest quality advice and service."

Mr Giles himself was named Investment Manager of the Year in the Channel Islands and Isle of Man category for the second year running.

On his own achievement, he commented: "I am delighted and honoured to have received this award, but again it simply reflects the great team working with me, especially apparent in recent times."
