Offshore litigation QC joins Baker & Partners

Thursday 05 July 2018

James Corbett QC, an English barrister with experience in international trusts, insolvency and commercial disputes in major offshore jurisdictions around the world, is joining specialist litigation and dispute resolution law firm Baker & Partners as Senior Counsel.

Mr Corbett was the Managing Partner of disputes and investigations law firm, Kobre & Kim’s Cayman office from 2012 to 2014, and was a member of commercial barristers’ chambers, Serle Court in Lincoln’s Inn, London.

He is considered as a leading authority on cross-border litigation in English and Commonwealth courts, with an emphasis on disputes in the financial services and technology industries as well as those related to insolvency.

The appointment comes in the wake of the recent launch of Baker & Partners’ US-based sister firm Baker de Kluiver in Washington DC in September 2017.

Stephen Baker, Senior Partner of Baker & Partners, commented: “The addition of such a renowned English QC is a real coup for Baker & Partners, and we are delighted to welcome him to the team.

"James’ expertise and decades of experience working on major complex offshore disputes in jurisdictions around the world is second to none. His hire represents a major expansion of our international reach and capability, as we continue to emerge as a major player in offshore disputes and litigation in Jersey and worldwide.”

Mr Corbett added: “Over the course of my career, I have long enjoyed the challenge of Jersey-sourced work as part of my international offshore disputes practice. I’m pleased to be joining Baker & Partners at such an exciting time for the firm, as it builds on its reputation as a leading offshore disputes firm based in Jersey.

"I look forward to bringing to bear my experience across multiple international offshore jurisdictions to help support the firm’s continued ascent as a major global offshore player.”
