Minister to explore "opportunities" with Gulf state representatives

The External Relations Minister is this week meeting representatives from Qatar and Bahrain to discuss "opportunities for future cooperation with Jersey".

Deputy Philip Ozouf's meetings will follow a visit to the 10th annual World Government Summit.

The annual event, which is being held in Dubai and will be attended by policy makers and academics from around the world, will focus on how to harness technology to find solutions to global challenges.

The visit comes days after he agreed to put an international agreement between Jersey and the United Arab Emirates on hold until a proposal by Reform Jersey has been voted on.

The Jersey/UAE bilateral investment treaty, which governs investment flows, was signed in November 2021 after more than three years of negotiations.

Following discussions by Ministers on 20 December,  approval was given to Deputy Philip Ozouf to complete the necessary steps to bring it into force.

It also comes little more than a week after Deputy Ozouf lost responsibility for financial services in the wake of receiving his third Petty Debts summons in as many months
