More international acclaim for La Mare... but not for wine this time

Thursday 30 May 2024

Local wine producer La Mare Wine Estate has been awarded two international medals for its Branchage ciders.

La Mare received a silver and bronze medal at the International Wine and Spirits Competition for its new Branchage Prestige Sparkling Dry Méthode Traditionnelle Fine Cider and its Jersey Branchage Cider respectively.

The local wine producer also recently received a bronze medal at the International Wine and Spirits competition for its 2023 vintage of Bailiwick red wine.

The award-winning ciders are made from a blend of traditional cider apples, including rare heritage Jersey varieties grown at the Estate.

The Branchage Prestige Cider is a new introduction to the range this year.

It is fermented with Champagne yeast and aged for 8 months before bottling for a year-long maturation, allowing the flavours to develop.

This new approach to wine and cider making has been led by Head winemaker Jordi Sanvicens Moreno, who praised the ciders as a "genuine tribute to [Jersey's] terroir and the meticulous craftsmanship of La Mare Wine Estate".

Vineyard Manager Andrew Smith added: "Every step, from planting to bottling, takes place right here, this means that we can ensure meticulous control over the quality of our products at every stage of the process."

Tim Crowley, Managing Director at La Mare, expressed his immense pride in Jordi, Andrew, and the entire team for their achievements.

"The significance of the IWSC recognition elevates La Mare Wine Estate's profile as a reputable artisan producer on the global stage," he said.

To celebrate its recent successes, La Mare is set to host a 'Meet the Winemaker' event on Wednesday 10 July.
