National award for Liquid director

Liquid public relations director Lisa Downes has been chosen to take part in a national mentoring scheme for young women run by industry publication PRWeek.

PRWeek has selected 15 women from across the UK’s communications industry to be mentored by female PR leaders. The project is designed to tackle the lack of senior women in the communications industry and will address important subjects such as work/life balance; women and power; and part-time working.

Mrs Downes has been partnered with Denise Kaufmann, CEO of the UK office of global communications firm, Ketchum.

"Denise has achieved so much in her PR career and it’s a fantastic opportunity for me to tap into that knowledge and learn new skills which will help me be a better PR practitioner, a more effective manager and develop my role as a director of a growing, multi-jurisdictional consultancy," said Mrs Downes.

Ms Kaufmann has more than 25 years’ experience leading marketing, advertising and public relations campaigns, working with corporate leaders including FedEx, IBM and Philips. She joined Ketchum in 1997 and is responsible for its 200 strong London office whilst supporting and building the agency’s client base. Ketchum operates in more than 70 countries across six continents.

Claire Murphy, consultant editor at PRWeek, oversees the mentoring programme.

She said: "Lisa is bright, articulate and determined and we are delighted she is part of our first group of talented young leaders. She has already made her mark by helping to launch the Channel Islands group of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations and by being recognised as the national Outstanding Young Communicator in the CIPR Excellence Awards in 2012. I hope the PRWeek Mentoring Scheme will add another dimension to her personal development."
