The Institute of Directors (IoD) has selected the Head of Technical at Jersey Finance as its new Chair.

Lisa Springate, who will succeed Chris Clark, has been a member of the Board of IoD since 2017 and is one of the judges of the IoD Jersey Director of the Year Awards..

She is a UK Barrister as and Jersey Advocate and heads the Technical team at Jersey Finance. Her role is to assist in representing the finance industry’s needs and concerns with regard to legislation, regulation and key areas of innovation. As such, she works closely with the Financial Services Industry in Jersey, the Government and the Jersey Financial Services Commission to ensure effective and proactive consultation and communication is maintained. 

Prior to joining Jersey Finance at the end of 2017, Ms Springate was a partner in the Commercial Litigation department of a local law firm and was an experienced litigator for over 25 years.

Commenting on her appointment, she said: "It is a pleasure and privilege to take on this role to represent the interests of our local members, in a rapidly changing business environment and a crucial year ahead. I am committed to ensuring the IoD maintains a focus on financial services and key areas of innovation for Jersey which in turn supports the IoD UK’s ‘better business, better economy’ aspirations."

Ms Springate said she also wants to engage with "our business leaders of tomorrow" in a bid to encourage diversity and to ensure that the IoD continues to support local businesses to grow.   

"To this end, IoD will be maintaining a busy programme of lunches featuring high profile speakers, as well as staging its Annual Debate and the Jersey Director of the Year Awards," she said. "In addition, the IoD will be facilitating professional development for its membership through the Chartered Director course and supporting future leaders by building on the IoD Jersey Work Shadow Scheme."

She concluded: "In the interim, I would like to thank Chris Clark for his outstanding leadership over the past three years and Kirsten Higgins, who remains Branch Officer, for her very valued contribution. It has been a real pleasure to work with them both and the remainder of the committee."
