Wednesday 09 March 2016

There’s a new course starting at Highlands College in September to get more of us taking on management roles in the Island’s hospitality and tourism sector.

You can now sign up for a two-year BTEC Level 3 course, designed to give you the skills to work in the industry.

Director Culinary Arts and Catering Operations Eileen Buicke-Kelly said: “This is an excellent opportunity for students to combine their studies and gain expert knowledge first hand in the industry.

"We have worked very closely with the Jersey Hospitality Association and Visit Jersey to develop this new programme of study and it’s exactly what the industry needs.  We hope to encourage the future generation of Jersey that working in the hospitality industry is a very exciting career choice.”

Students will spend two terms in College and one getting practical experience in the industry and the aim if for students to get a job over the busy tourist summer season.

Association Manager for the Jersey Hospitality Association Helen Hart said: “We are delighted that a new course has been developed that will help support not only one of the Island’s strategic objective a ‘Total Tourism’ approach but also provide an excellent opportunity to start to develop a career in hospitality and tourism management for Jersey students.

"We look forward to welcoming and supporting the first intake when the course starts in September 2016.”
