New internships at PwC

Businesses in Guernsey and Jersey need to embrace local graduate talent if they are to succeed in sustaining their workforce, according to PwC Channel Islands, which itself recently passed the milestone of welcoming 100 graduates to its offices across the islands over the past three years.

The intake in the Channel Islands since 2011 is almost evenly split between both Jersey and Guernsey and includes graduates from a broad range of backgrounds and degree disciplines, with many of those on the graduate programme now on their way to global careers. The most recent graduate intake was the largest in the past three years, with a total of 38 new recruits joining the Channel Islands offices.

Reaching this record level of graduate intake for PwC coincides with the firm nationally being included in the recent Sunday Times “Best Big Companies to Work For” survey and the only “Big Four” firm to be ranked in the top 25. It is also a record-breaking eleventh year PwC  has been ranked number one in the Times Top 100 Graduate Employer of the Year list as well as retaining the Times Graduate Employer of Choice in Accounting for a 15th consecutive year, continuing their run as the only employer ever to win this award.

Evelyn Brady, Partner at PwC Channel Islands, said: “This significant intake of graduates in recent years demonstrates not only that PwC continues to see the long-term value in investing in local young talent, but also that there are real opportunities for graduates in Guernsey and Jersey to embark and build on world class careers in diverse business areas in their home environment.

“Sustaining a long-term workforce is so important for the Channel Islands, and it is vital for businesses in both islands to invest in and support talent from as early as possible. That’s what our internship programme aims to do, with many of our interns subsequently returning to PwC to launch their careers as graduates."

To further broaden the help it offers to young local people looking to start their careers, PwC Channel Islands recently launched a brand new internship programme. Designed for those in their penultimate year at university, it’s scheduled to run over a four week period from mid-July this summer.  The internship programme will give local undergraduates an insight into working at PwC and an excellent chance to explore some of the opportunities available to them in the islands, whilst at the same time building their skills and confidence. Those who perform well on the programme could go back to university with a firm graduate job offer from PwC.
