Skills Show goes virtual

Monday 12 October 2020

This year’s Jersey Skills Show has been extended to a five-day event and will be brought to schools and islanders virtually for the first time.

The Show – which runs from today to Friday 16 October – will bring together more than 60 exhibitors from 17 different industry sectors.

Organisers have changed the format of the annual event, which was been held on just one day, not only due to covid-19 restrictions but also based on the feedback of schools, which requested additional flexibility so they could schedule times that suited them.

This year, students will be able to find out more about different industries and careers by logging onto the new Jersey Skills Show website.

They will also have access to lunchtime sessions during which they will get to hear directly from employers and ask any questions they may have.

Islanders considering a career change will also be able to join a live industry session with leading local experts, on Thursday 15 October from 17:30 until 20:00.

The website will remain available all year-round as a career guide resource for students and islanders.

“The Jersey Skills Show is an important part of the academic calendar as it enables young people to make sound decisions on their future careers and the many options available to them," Assistant Minister for Education Deputy Jeremy Maçon said.

“I must extend my congratulations to the Skills Jersey team who have worked to create an unmissable event and a brilliant, engaging website. I would urge all students, as well as those Islanders who are considering a career change, to take advantage of the live sessions to find out more about what different industries can offer.”
