Superfast mobile upgrade near completion

Friday 07 November 2014

Telecoms provider JT is one step closer to launching its new superfast 4G mobile network having replaced the first mobile equipment on some masts and conducting tests across the bailiwicks.

As preparation works continue, JT’s Dave Newbold, Chief Operations and Technology Officer, said that while phone masts are being upgraded, there will inevitably be periods of disruption.

He said: “We have carefully plannied the works to coincide with periods when usage is at its lowest and as such hope customers are not noticing a disruption to service. However, our priority still remains to make certain that our customers are kept informed of works at all times and to this end we will continue to publish regular updates on our http://www.jtglobal.com/4G website to inform customers of which individual sites are being replaced and when. This information will also be filtered out to customers via SMS messages and social media to ensure that they are aware of the works should they experience any problems with the service.

“Our significant investment in this new world class 4G network will not only enable superfast data speeds, but will also drastically improve the existing mobile data services. The new network will greatly benefit all JT customers’ who use mobile phones, tablets and dongles to get a much better connection when they are in buildings, or in areas where the signal is currently not as strong.”

The new 4G network will be 100% faster than the quickest data speeds that islanders currently receive now, and the state-of-the-art LTE Advanced 4G system, offers the latest advances in mobile technology and will be able to cope with the next generation of mobile innovation after 4G. Combining JT’s new 4G network and its superfast fibre-optic broadband networks will mean that for devices capable of picking up both 4G and Wi-Fi, data connections should be seamless across the Islands.

Information about 4G-capable mobile phone handsets and tablets is available from JT's shop the Queen Street store, where there are plans for a live demonstration area in the store to help customers to better understand the new system.
