Wednesday 06 October 2021

Sir Andrew McFarlane, President of the Family Division for England and Wales and Chair of the Family Justice Council is the keynote speaker at Corbett Le Quesne’s International Family Law Conference this week.

The conference, debate and dinner is due to take place on Friday 8 October at the L’Horizon Hotel.

Sir Andrew, who has been involved in some of the most high profile cases of the last 50 years was due to attend the conference last year but it was postponed due to Covid.

Advocate Barbara Corbett said: “It was such a blow when the conference was delayed, everyone was looking forward to it and we were so lucky that Sir Andrew had agreed to speak in Jersey.

“We did not know if such a fantastic opportunity would arise again. Thankfully he was equally keen to come over for the re-scheduled event and he plans to enjoy some time in Jersey on this visit.”

The event includes a debate about child abduction and whether or not “welfare and the paramountcy principle should always trump summary return”, with QCs attending to argue vociferously on both sides.

Corbett Le Quesne has recently been listed as a Top Family Law Firm 2021 by eprivateclient, as well as being shortlisted for Family Law Firm of the Year: South, having won that title last year.

Advocate Corbett, Senior Partner at Corbett Le Quesne, has also been shortlisted for Family Law Partner of the Year at the Family Law Awards and rated as one of the Top 100 Private Client Lawyers 2021 by Citywealth.

Advocate Nick Le Quesne said: “2021 has been a busy year and we are delighted to be able to host this again after two of our conferences were disrupted by covid. The Jersey International Family Law Conference is always so well received and we are really proud to have such strong international links which are crucial to family law in Jersey.”
