Construction consultants HLG Associates have appointed a trainee quantity surveyor/project manager - the first of several new hires the firm hopes to make in the coming months.

Zoe Shannon has interior design experience and presently completing the final year of a distance learning degree in the subject. While supporting the team, she will be undertaking the company’s pan-island training programme.

“Through study I have found a real enthusiasm for the built environment, both interior and exterior, and the overall process of design, construction and building management,” she said, going on to note a particular interest in sustainability.

“As a young person who will have to live with the potential consequences of climate change, I am very passionate about sustainability. I am looking forward to becoming involved in helping organisations better understand their climate impact and ways to reduce their carbon footprint.”

HLG managing director Jerry Willis commented: “We are delighted Zoe is joining our Jersey office, and looking forward to supporting her career development.

“While that is primarily focused on quantity surveying and project management, our range of professional construction, environmental and sustainability services present opportunities for far wider personal development. This is particularly pertinent as the company continues its expansion to serve a growing client base demanding our type of specialist services.”

Other roles HLG is hoping to fill in the near future include qualified quantity surveyors, experienced project managers and environmental services specialists, alongside further trainee roles.
