Venture consultancy firm launches

Thursday 05 December 2019

A new venture consultancy firm has launched in Jersey, aiming to provide start-ups and young businesses with greater chances of success.

Based in St. Helier, Altitude was founded by Oliver Mourant, a former co-founder of a global investment consultancy firm; Ben Hickingbotham, Creative Director of The Observatory and Erik Tyler, a Sydney-based Venture Consultant and Strategic Advisor.

The firm will focus on assisting start-ups and aims to offer something different by helping them with branding too.

“We have our own design studio, which means when we take on a start-up or early stage company, we also build their brand and position them into a strategic rollout,” said Mr Hickingbotham. “We believe a great brand increases the value of a company.”

Altitude also says it will offer operational support through its connections with brokers in Australia, where Mr Tyler specialises in deal flow advice. The firm says he will also be able to provide introductions to a network of US and European financiers.

“I believe our skills lie in recognising exceptional people who can execute. And then helping them get there,” Mr Tyler commented. “Altitude gives founders the benefit of having strategic minds and strong expertise on the board straight away.

"Founders can fall into the trap of spending all their time and drive simply chasing funding. We can take that pressure away, allowing founders to focus on the business, and grow their ideas effectively with the right support and strategy.”

Since launching Altitude has already worked with FairFleet, a Munich-based, full-service provider for drone-powered solutions and Xinecto, a mortgage-matching platform for non-UK residents.

The team says it now looking to meet “anyone with a great idea".

“We’re looking for early stage companies from industries we’re excited about and founders with vision and passion,” said Mr Mourant. “We help founders accelerate ideas and deliver products to their markets with great branding straight away, secure investment and establish rock solid teams and operational structures with a shared vision and support system. Altitude has one rule: we only work with people we believe in.”
