Work experience student welcomed to Ravenscroft full-time

A Highlands College student has turned his work experience at Ravenscroft into a full-time job.

Jenson Holmes (pictured top) had set his sights on a career in the investment world.

As part of his course at Highlands College, he was required to complete two weeks’ work experience, which cemented his desire to work in the industry.

Jenson said: "My time with Ravenscroft helped me gain hands-on experience and a much better understanding of what investing involves, from advising on and managing investments through to executing orders in international markets.

"It also showed me the great culture at Ravenscroft where everyone was really welcoming and keen to help me learn. The two weeks went very quickly and I was definitely sad to leave."

After completing his Level 3 Extended Diploma in Business, where he achieved a distinction and won an Outstanding Academic Achievement award, Jenson was then offered a full-time position as a trainee investment advisor at Ravenscroft.

He said: "I was excited to return to Ravenscroft as I had really enjoyed my time there. I am now learning new things every day and being surrounded by knowledgeable and friendly people will help me to progress quickly."

Jenson added that the work experience aspect of his course had been really beneficial.

He explained: "I would definitely encourage students to do as much work experience as possible as it is very useful, not only for skill development but also for establishing useful connections. It also enabled me to understand what the business does and the development opportunities, which is crucial.

"In my case, it also resulted in a job offer, which is more than I could have hoped for."

As part of his development, Mr Holmes will study for the level 4 CISI Financial Advice diploma, which the company is supporting as part of its commitment to professional development.

Haydn Taylor, Managing Director of Ravenscroft in Jersey, added: "Each year across our offices, we offer work experience to dozens of students to give them a better understanding of the wide range of roles on offer.

"It’s great that Jenson has now joined us after really impressing us all while he was with us. Nurturing home-grown talent is a real focus for Ravenscroft and we have a number of bright, young people within our offices and it’s always exciting to see the way they grow with us."
