On 31 March 2018, Jersey Post will issue six stamps, a Souvenir Miniature Sheet and a Prestige Stamp Booklet to commemorate 100 Years of the RAF.
The first of April 2018 marks 100 years since the Royal Flying Corps and the Royal Naval Air Service amalgamated to form the Royal Air Force - the world’s first independent Air Force. Tasked with roles from defending the nation’s airspace to conducting air operations all around the world, in the 21st century the RAF’s mission is to defend the UK and her allies, just as it was when it was formed at the beginning of the 20th century.
Jersey Post’s Philatelic Production Co-ordinator, Chris Elligott, explains, “The past 100 years have seen the RAF at the forefront of technical development and operational superiority. This issue illustrated by renowned aviation artist, Adam Tooby, features some of the landmark aircraft that populate the RAF’s history.”
The aircraft featured on the stamps are the Royal Aircraft Factory SE5a, the Hawker Fury Mk.1, the Short Stirling B.III, the Supermarine Spitfire PR.XIX, the English Electric Lightning F.6 and the Eurofighter Typhoon FRG4
Jersey Post’s 100 Years of the RAF stamps will be available to buy from all branches of Jersey Post from 31 March 2018.
