The Association of Jersey Charities will be concluding the celebration of its 50th Anniversary year with a function, attended by the Lt Governor, His Excellency Sir Stephen Dalton and Lady Dalton, at the Jersey Museum, The Weighbridge, on Wednesday 23 March at 6.00 pm. The AJC was officially launched in March 1971.
Titled “50 NOT OUT”, the event will also be attended by representatives of the 52 charities who each received grants of £10,000 from the AJC.
With a value of more than half a million pounds this was the largest single award ever made by the AJC. While the AJC applied its usual rigorous protocols in assessing the applications, the rules were relaxed slightly to allow charities to use the funds, if awarded, at their discretion.
In the event awards were made to slightly more than the original intended fifty since there were so many compelling applications in the wake of Covid-19 that the grants assessment panel felt that this was one area where even greater munificence was very appropriate and 52 local organisations benefitted accordingly.
This initiative was launched with a reception, complete with a 50th birthday cake made by the Beresford Street Kitchen, and it is fitting that this event too will feature catering by the same organisation.
