64 new parking spaces are to be created in Green Street multi-storey car park after the Planning Minister gave the go ahead today.

A new police headquarters is due to be built on the open part of Green Street car park but concerns were expressed about the resulting loss of car parking spaces.

The application, by States of Jersey Property Holdings, shows an extension to the existing half deck at the top floor level.

The Minister for Planning and Environment, Deputy Rob Duhamel, recently approved the police headquarters on condition that 53 of the 90 spaces due to be lost when the new building is constructed, were replaced.

The Minister today welcomed the application to build 64 spaces, 11 more than he had requested. When complete, the extension will bring the total number of spaces in the multi-storey car park to 673.
