Recipients of the Bailiff’s Covid Awards have been formally presented with their Awards at an event held at the Great Hall within Highlands College.
In the presence of His Excellency, Admiral Jerry Kydd, their friends, family and colleagues the individuals and organisations were celebrated for their contributions made during the Covid-19 pandemic.
From the 110 submissions made to the Bailiff’s Chambers 45 individuals and organisations were chosen. 17 individuals received the Bailiff’s Award, a gold duplicate of the Bailiff’s official seal, marking an exceptional contribution to the island community. 28 individuals received the Bailiff’s citation, a certificate to recognise special efforts towards the Covid-19 response.
The awards recognised individual achievements across the following organisations:
Government of Jersey
States of Jersey
Arm’s-length organisations
Third sector organisations including charities, community and volunteer groups
Parishes
Private sector organisations that provided direct support for the COVID-19 response in a public setting
The Bailiff of Jersey, Sir Timothy Le Cocq, said, “It was a true privilege to recognise 45 individuals and teams through these awards. Each recipient had been nominated by the public. Covid tested many of us and presented unparalleled challenges to all aspects of island life. These awards captured some, but not all, of the island's response . On behalf of the island I am grateful for their selfless service and commitment they demonstrated in 2020.”
Paul Battrick MBE, on behalf of The Jersey Humane Society also took the opportunity to present The Jersey Humane Society’s Gold Medal, which was accepted by The Bailiff on behalf of “The People of the Island of Jersey in recognition of their Fortitude during the Covid-19 Pandemic of 2020.”
The Bailiff, Sir Timothy Le Cocq said – ‘It is an honour to receive this award on behalf of the Island and people of Jersey. It is only the third gold award made since 1865, and this shows the special nature of this medal. As Bailiff I will wear this medal on ceremonial occasions and it will then pass to future office holders to ensure that there is a visible reminder of this important recognition..’
The medal was made by Aurum Jewellers and bears the society’s logo and the words “For Courage and Humanity”.
