Six emerging business talents have used their entrepreneurial know-how to win themselves a VIP ticket to Jersey’s first ever small business conference, GREENHOUSE 2021, following a competition run in partnership with Highlands College.
In a quick-fire contest, students on the Business BTEC course at Highlands were challenged to come up with an innovative way to promote GREENHOUSE 2021, a two-day conference designed to help the self-employed get their mojo back after the pandemic.
The winning students – Hannah Gell, James Lewis, Gabriel Militello, Jake Grist, Luis Perestrelo and Abhishek Afith – bagged themselves a VIP table to the conference where they will be front and centre for talks given by business experts including reality star turned entrepreneur Jamie Laing and luxury travel trailblazer Tamara Lohan MBE, in partnership with Visit Jersey.
Their winning ideas included marketing partnerships with major local businesses and Jersey social media influencers, costumed flyering campaigns, musical promo and even an elaborate throwing challenge to win discounted tickets!
Each entry was marked based on its adherence to the brief, the plausibility of using it to promote the event, and, most importantly, for its creativity.
GREENHOUSE is also welcoming an array of expert speakers from Jersey and the UK who will share their hot tips, hacks, insider know-how and inspiring stories with the attendees. See the full line-up of this year’s conference here.
In addition to attending the conference on 5th & 6th November for free, each of the winning students will attend a Lunchtime Q&A panel with local business leaders as well as getting access to a special VIP area and receiving a VIP swag bag filled with local business goodies.
GREENHOUSE is also pleased to be providing work experience for a number of Highlands students interested in Event Management who have signed up to join the event crew over the course of the two days.
Commenting on the standard of entries from the Highlands cohort, GREENHOUSE Founder Jacqui Patton said: “It was such a joy to meet these future entrepreneurs who will be at the heart of Jersey’s businesses in years to come. It was hard to pick just six winners out of almost 50 fantastic and inventive entries and I am so looking forward to getting to know our winners at the event.”
Richard Bolingbroke, Managing Director of NatWest International, GREENHOUSE’s headline sponsor said: “The talent, enthusiasm and creativity shown by the Highland’s students in response to this competition is a pleasure to see. Nurturing talent is something we take very seriously at NatWest International, and we are proud to sponsor GREENHOUSE and help them to support the island’s burgeoning business talent.”
Echoing this sentiment, Lecturer at Highlands College Pawel Kulon added: “Our students are so excited to be part of this event as their BTEC Extended Diploma in Business studies course specifically includes a unit on how to pitch for a new business. What an amazing and educational opportunity for the students to actually meet successful business owners and entrepreneurs in person and to learn, first-hand, what it takes to start a business from scratch.”
GREENHOUSE 2021 is taking place at the Albert Bartlett Potato Pack House and is kindly sponsored by NatWest International, True Food, Visit Jersey and Arbre Consulting.
It’s time to change the record, reset and focus on flourishing in 2022 and beyond.
